Christian Becker, MD, PhD

Associate Medical Director, WMCHealth’s eHealth Center

    Christian Becker, MD, PhD joined the WMCHealth Network in January of 2016 as the Associate Medical Director of the newly created WMCHealth eHealth Center. He is directing the eHealth Center programs for Clinical Research, Medical Education and Performance and Quality Improvement.

    During his tenure at WMCHealth Dr. Becker successfully developed structured review tools to improve the performance of Intensive Care Units as well as its multidisciplinary care providers. Using standardized methodology across the system combined with innovative and intuitive visualizations these structured performance reviews have led to significant improvements in a variety of clinical care quality metrics.

    Dr. Becker is leading the postgraduate medical education curriculum development at WMCHealth/ New York Medical College with the goal of educating the next generation of physicians on the role and integration of telemedicine in clinical practice. He has developed successful clinical electronic Intensive Care Unit rotations for medical students, residents and critical care fellows.

    Dr. Becker has authored and co-authored numerous publications in the field of telemedicine/eICU. He is the principal investigator or co-investigator on a variety of ongoing clinical research projects. In addition, he is a member of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology/ Philips eResearch Institute, which is geared to harness the power of large clinical databases generated by eICU operations to inform clinical practice by answering important research questions.

    Dr. Becker joins WMCHealth following 11 years at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai/ Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, where he trained in Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine and then joined the faculty as a physician scientist. During his time at Mount Sinai Dr. Becker developed basic science as well as translational and clinical research projects.

    Dr. Becker received combined MD and PhD degrees (molecular genetics) from Hannover Medical School in Germany. He trained in Internal Medicine in Germany (2000-2002) and subsequently in the US (2002-2005), followed by clinical (2005-2008) and research fellowship training (2008-2009) in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.

    Dr. Becker has authored and co-authored numerous high impact research papers and has won numerous research, clinical service and teaching awards.
