Ralph C. Derrickson

Ralph has a rich history as a technology entrepreneur and investor. His passion for health care, driven by the premature arrival of two daughters, led him to Carena where he served as President & CEO from January of 2006 to its acquisition in October 2017. Ralph led the transformation of the company from a primary care practice to a leading virtual healthcare solution provider serving large self-insured employers and health systems. By the time of its acquisition, Carena was the largest virtual care solution provider for health systems and led the industry in all clinical quality and patient satisfaction metrics.

Prior to Carena, Ralph was the Managing Director of Venture Investments at Vulcan Capital, Paul Allen’s investment organization where he was responsible for technology and biotechnology investments. He co-founded Watershed Capital, an early stage technology venture fund. Ralph has served on the boards of numerous technology start-ups. As an entrepreneur he has held leadership positions at Metricom, Inc., Starwave Corporation, and NeXT Computer, Inc.

Today, Ralph is Managing Director of the RCollins Group, LLC where he continues his work with health care entrepreneurs and investors using technology to solve hard problems and create disruptive business models. He serves on the board of directors of Perficient (NASDAQ: PRFT), a St. Louis-based leading digital transformation consulting firm. He is an active member of the Seattle entrepreneur community serving on the board of directors of Life Science Washington and Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Buerk Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Washington. He also serves on the advisory board of the Golisano College of Computing & Information Sciences at the Rochester Institute of Technology and the board of trustees of Hyla Middle School on Bainbridge Island.

Ralph earned a Bachelor of Technology degree in systems software science from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester New York.
